Memory Exchange: Dundee’s Waterfront

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a free reminiscence resource, Memory Exchange: Dundee’s Waterfront, created as part of a local reminiscence project reflecting on Dundee’s ever-changing waterfront area.

The Memory Exchange project involved a group of local Dundonians sharing their memories of Dundee’s waterfront area. It ran over a number of sessions at Discovery Point during the Autumn of 2018. Each session was inspired by a different theme from Dundee’s waterfront including shipbuilding, the docks, and the city’s whaling industry.  Objects, images and photographs from Dundee Heritage Trust’s museum collections were used as inspiration and prompts to encourage conversation.

The sessions were facilitated by local writer and teacher, Zoe Venditozzi.  Zoe has previously been employed as Reader-in-Residence for Dundee Libraries and has also been involved in local initiatives including Dundee Literary Festival, Dundee Women’s Festival and Dundee Design Festival. The memories shared by participants in the sessions have been brought to life in illustrations by talented local artist Laura Darling who has designed two ‘Wullies’ for the Oor Wullie Bucket trail (past and present) and is currently Artist in Residence at Hospitalfield House, Arbroath.

Memory Exchange: Dundee’s Waterfront will be distributed free to all Dundee schools, libraries and care homes. A free download will also be made available from rrsdiscovery.com. The project was made possible by funding from Aberbrothock Skea Trust and Museums Galleries Scotland.
