Dundee Heritage Trust exists to share our heritage for the benefit of current and future generations. Now, we’re on a mission to protect the RRS Discovery and spark curiosity in heritage for the next 100 years.
Celebrate two iconic publications from within our Polar Collections; the famous South Polar Times compiled on Discovery in 1902, and Shackleton’s rare Aurora Australis.
As 2024 marks #Shackleton150, we look at just some of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Discovery story, and how his first trip to Antarctica paved the way for an incredible career in Polar exploration.
Took my 5 year old and he loved it – we all did! The ship and museum were amazing and we learned so much, the gentleman explaining all about the bell was fantastic.

This is one of the best museums I have visited. I really liked the focus on the contribution of women and the exploitation of Empire and Colonialism. Really brave. The curation, objects, films and storytelling talk of peoples, places and the harsh realities of 19th century industrialisation and the severity of business competition in the 20th century.

An immersive, interactive, inspiring, & visually stunning museum. Visual displays, videos on wall screens, activities for kids, displays indoors, and you can go on to the deck of the ship & below.

Simple fantastic, spent several hours here and should be must do for anyone visiting Dundee. Had a lovely soup and scone in the cafe. A very well presented and interactive museum.

This was an awesome experience! You get to freely explore the 3 different levels of the Discovery ship. The museum before the ship is full of cool movies and learning experiences. Highly recommend this!

I absolutely adore this place. The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. There is so much to see! It’s a haven of information on Dundee’s history of the jute mills. It’s fascinating from beginning to end. It’s worth a visit!
