Support the Royal Research Ship Discovery on her continuing journey

The generosity of private organisations and individual subscribers was crucial in securing the necessary funds for the design and build of the Royal Research Ship Discovery and the National Antarctic Expedition of 1901-04.

Many gifts were offered ‘to contribute to towards the advancement of our knowledge and the planet on which we live.’

No longer exploring the icy seas of Antarctica, the Royal Research Ship Discovery has returned to the place of her birth in Dundee, where her journey continues. Visitors to Discovery Point are now the ones to explore her historic decks, following in the footsteps of epic adventurers and curious scientists. The Royal Research Ship Discovery and the Nationally Significant polar collection, cared for by Dundee Heritage Trust, continue to help generations of children advance their knowledge and learn more about our planet.

We are incredibly lucky to have responsibility for such an important heritage asset, but we need help once again from generous organisations and individuals to ensure that the Royal Research Ship Discovery continues to inspire. The effects of age, weathering, and our changing climate are drastically taking their toll on the ship’s structure, and she urgently needs specialist repair work to keep her intact. Help us fund vital repairs now before we lose her forever.
