Talk: Before the Golden Age of Antarctic Exploration

What was Antarctic Exploration like before the RRS Discovery set off? Delve in to hundreds of years of exploration in the icy south from around the world, travelling back all the way to the 7th Century to discover what led to the creation of the RRS Discovery and the subsequent boom in our understanding of the icy continent.


Talk: Art in Antarctica

Antarctica is the only continent on earth without an indigenous human population. Nevertheless, for almost as long as people have been exploring it, they have been making art. Discover carved whale teeth, scientific watercolours and Christmas decorations in this lecture about the many artistic responses to the icy continent.

The Story of RRS Discovery
The Royal Research Ship Discovery’s legacy spans over 120 years. Having travelled all over the globe, the ship returned to its home of Dundee in 1986 and has since been cared for by Dundee Heritage Trust. Get a glimpse into her remarkable ongoing story.

How long does a visit to Discovery Point and RRS Discovery take?
We recommend at least 1.5 hours to visit the museum and ship. Admission comes as an annual pass, so visit as many times as you like in a year!
Are dogs allowed?
Only Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs are permitted at Discovery Point.
Do I need to book in advance?
There is no need to book in advance. You can pay on arrival.
Can I use my Art Pass to visit Discovery Point?
