Despite the best of care, we can no longer halt the deterioration of her 120-year-old timber. She requires specialist conservation before it is too late. We launched our SOS Christmas Appeal on Giving Tuesday and are delighted to have already received the first donations (and lovely comments, shown here with an *) from our supporters. If you’ve already given, thank you. We want to show you how your donation will make a difference. One of Dundee’s last cultural icons that’s more than just a tourist attraction.* Polar historian Stephen Scott-Fawcett and maritime archaeologist Mensun Bound kicked off our appeal with a generous pledge following a visit to Discovery Point as part of The Explorer’s Club. All profits from signed copies of Mensun’s book, ‘The Ship Beneath The Ice’, have been donated to the appeal – an amazing £2,000 banked as our first donation. Help us repair the RRS Discovery. |

RRS Discovery is a unique historic ship with over 120 years’ worth of stories to tell. |
As her long-term custodian, Dundee Heritage Trust works to interpret and conserve the ship for future generations. Our small but dedicated crew are working daily to monitor and repair the damage to RRS Discovery. They are also looking at ways to improve the conditions on the ship to prevent further deterioration. As a part of the team that opened Discovery to the public in 1986 and guided tours on her for three summers, I want to see her protected for future generations.* Last year we were grateful to receive some funds from the National Memorial Heritage Fund for urgent repairs to the ship. This work is taking place, with a further program of major repairs to RRS Discovery being a priority for the next five years. As part of this campaign, we’ll be sharing images and videos with our supporters to highlight some of the issues facing the ship and our plans to address them. Every share helps us reach more supporters, so please like and follow us on our social media links below. Protect RRS Discovery for the future |
